Belong - October Language

When I checked my mail today this and Axe To Fall were waiting for me. I'm listening to this one right now and it sounds AMAZING. Very happy that Geographic North put this out on vinyl. Listen if you like Fennesz, Tim Hecker, etc...

Jerry Fuchs RIP

I was sitting in horrendous traffic after the Eagles game on sunday night when I got an email from Todd with the same subject as this post and I was shocked. Jerry Fuchs, drummer extraordinaire, was dead at age 34. Brooklyn Vegan has some additional info about it as well as some great videos of him doing what he loved.

Gerhardt Fuchs grew up playing the drums in Georgia and went on to perform with bands that toured across the country, but it was in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, that he forged his reputation as a dynamic, driving drummer widely esteemed by his peers.

And it was in that same neighborhood, in the shadow of the Williamsburg Bridge, that Mr. Fuchs, known as Jerry, fell to his death on Sunday morning [11/8] in the elevator shaft of an industrial building on Berry Street. - NY Times

I didn't know Jerry but I was lucky enough to see him play about 2 months ago when Maserati came through Philly. In the brief conversation I had with him following the show it was incredibly easy to tell what a kind and genuine person he was. RIP.

Earth Energy Jam

Earth Energy Jam>Run Like Hell

October 5, 2002. I am standing in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night in Spotsylvania, VA. This is the same weekend the DC sniper is taking out unsuspecting people as close as a few miles away. The disco biscuits have set up a stage and are playing some of their best stuff ever heard before or since. This song starts up (the DL above) and a few minutes in my buddy leans to me and says, "This is the Earth Energy Jam." Mind you, Earth Energy Jam is not the name of any song, it is just the "feeling" he is "vibing" at this moment. And never more in my life have I had the desire to say STFU You Dirty Filthy Hippie. Now as I listen to it, he may have been right on the money. Story Time over, I have to rake leaves that earth dropped on my backyard so thick I could swim in them.

incredible album that i recently grabbed on vinyl. just a guitar and nick's haunting vocals. he rarely performed live and after recording these songs in 2 nights he went to his label, island records, and dropped off the master tapes to the receptionist and left without speaking to anyone. he died from an overdose of antidepressants at age 26. this was his last album.

i don't know if many people have heard this and based on the few reviews floating around out there most probably wouldn't listen to it. just an awesome album front to back. i guess if i had to label this it would be something like alt. country? but it's way better than any description i could offer. give it a listen. has dudes from botch but sounds absolutely nothing like that. if you like it and want to hear their ep let me know and i will post that as well.

Phish covers Exile on Main Street

I'm not a Rolling Stones fan. In fact, I really only like a few of their songs, one of which is Loving Cup from this album. But the reason I like Loving Cup is that Phish has been covering it for many years to the point that when I was much younger I thought it was a Phish original. I also like their song moonlight mile from the album Sticky Fingers. If you are looking for soundboard recordings of last nights Phish three set show, leave your email in the comments and I'll see if I can dig up an active link.

Or grab either one of those full albums here.
