Karma To Burn

this came out 10 years ago and i'm pretty pissed i didn't hear it until last week. kind of like an instrumental kyuss on steroids. listen

So I just heard a rumor...

that High on Fire will be playing The Note in West Chester in the not to distant future. I need to start loosening up the neck muscles.

Their new album Snakes For The Divine comes out on Feb. 23rd and the reviews so far have been pretty awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

A few of us saw them towards the end of last year with Converge and Mastodon and they played a new song called Frost Hammer which sounded great. Here's a shitty video from that tour and a decent quality vid of the song.

GY!BE / Explosions in the Sky

Part 1
Part 2

post-rock.

every time i hear myself say this, or watch myself type it, i can't help but cringe just a little bit. mainly because the average person automatically assumes you're a pretentious asshole that listens to garbage, which isn't usually the case.

the above two bands are/were basically responsible for starting the whole post-rock movement that's occurred over the last 10+ years... and they sound absolutely nothing alike. but even if you hate whatever it is that 'post-rock' encompasses, you should really make sure to own these two albums. definitely some of the best there are.

These Arms Are Snakes

broke up.

"It's with a heavy heart we tell you that These Arms Are Snakes is no more. It's been a great run and we'd like to send out a very hearty 'Thank You' to everyone that we've worked with or anyone that we've toured with; anyone that lent us a floor, towed our van and/or trailer, lent a van, given us a listen, downloaded our records prior to their coming out, bought our shit, or asked us where our band name came from; everyone who cooked us food, made habanero-infused tequila, had a safety meeting with us, let Steve gyrate all over you, had to live with any of us, made us pay shitloads of money to get off your punk label, got us into Lost, found Steve drunkenly wandering the streets of Tokyo alone, played Madlibs in the van (plural nouns), lost money promoting one of our shows, took Chris to the hospital, put up with our drunken sorry asses, got into a fight with us, etc. etc. This band could not have been possible without all of you. We sincerely thank you."

Here is their first ep.

From open to close it's an incredible album that's meant to be listened to all the way through. You should go to the bar and drink a few beers or smoke whatever you have, come home and sit down and listen to this record. In my opinion, the best thing Neurosis has ever released.

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

When thinking about what the best albums of the 00's were this one is definitely near the top. The songwriting doesn't get much better and it's an album that is just as good the 100th time as it was the first. Pretty amazing that one dude could write all of this. It was the second album in a series of 50 that he planned to release for every state but that idea has since fizzled.

Over the next few weeks/months I'm going to try and post some other albums that I think were the best of the decade. Anyway, enjoy this one.
