Music As Torture...

This has been all over the news this week since certain artists are demanding to know if their songs were used as a torture device. I'm convinced that they don't really care if their song was used to torture someone but rather if the song they wrote was bad enough to be considered.

If someone put me in a room and played nothing but Hed P.E. and REM I would without a doubt give up whatever I had to... or kill myself, whichever came first.

Here is a list of the artists/songs that were allegedly used:

AC/DC, Aerosmith, Barney theme song (By Bob Singleton), The Bee Gees, Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, David Gray, Deicide, Don McLean, Dope, Dr. Dre, Drowning Pool, Eminem, Hed P.E., James Taylor, Limp Bizkit, Marilyn, Manson, Matchbox Twenty, Meatloaf, Meow mix jingle, Metallica, Neil Diamond, Nine Inch Nails, Pink, Prince, Queen, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Redman, Saliva, Sesame street theme music (By Christopher Cerf), Stanley Brothers, "The Star Spangled Banner", Tupac Shakur

Phish Musical Costume

With the upcoming Halloween Phish festival in Cali, wonder over what musical costume they will adorn abounds. See, when Phish plays on Halloween, sometimes they play a full set that is an album cover in it's entirety. In the past they have covered the following:
1994: The Beatles - The White Album
1995: The Who - Quadrophenia
1996: Talking Heads - Remain in Light
1998: The Velvet Underground
Surprise musical costume (Nov. 2, 1998): Phish play Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

So there is much speculation as to what they might cover this time (First halloween show in 11 years). A blogspot has dedicated itself to the possible choices.

Halloween bRaH
Possibles include, Zepplin 1 and 3, Boston - Boston, The Band - Brown Album, U2 - Joshua Tree, The Police - Ghost in the Machine, Rage Against The Machine - Evil Empire, Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, Black Sabbath - Paranoid, MGMT - Oracular Spectacular and more, all with DL links.

I hadn't listened to this recently so I threw it on this afternoon while waiting for a flight. It's incredibly relaxing.

"The music was designed to be continuously looped as a sound installation, with the intent to defuse the tense, anxious atmosphere of an airport terminal. Eno conceived this idea while being stuck at Cologne Bonn Airport in Germany in the mid 70s. He had to spend several hours there and was extremely annoyed by the uninspired sound atmosphere."

Disappearer

* I'm bumping this because the album rules and you all should own it.

I hadn't even heard of this band until a couple weeks ago and I saw that the lp was for sale through magic bullet so i figured i'd give it a shot and man is it awesome. members used to be in there were wires, who i dug... and doomriders, who i didn't... but this sounds nothing like those bands and is actually light years better. i'm not even sure how to properly describe it so just listen to it.

Kurt Ballou / Magic Bullet did an incredible job with this as well.

Old Man Gloom

Meditations In B

Seminar II - The Holy Rites Of Primitivism Regressionism

Seminar III - Zozobra

Christmas (Includes the Christmas Eve ep)

one band i haven't seen live and will probably never get a chance to. if you haven't heard it, i don't know what to say. ten years ago aaron turner and santos montano decided to rock out in santa fe with the help of caleb scoffield and nate newton. so far it's been 4 albums and one of those 3" cd ep deals that about 1% of the population can actually listen to. and they've played about 5 shows total. dig it.

new Converge album...

Dark Horse – 2:54
Reap What You Sow – 2:39
Axe to Fall – 1:41
Effigy – 1:42
Worms Will Feed – 5:52
Wishing Well – 2:49
Damages – 4:26
Losing Battle – 1:46
Dead Beat – 2:36
Cutter – 1:40
Slave Driver – 2:48
Cruel Bloom – 4:01
Wretched World – 7:10

holy hell this is good. it's their seventh album and i like pretty much everything they've done save for a few songs on You Fail Me and No Heroes but this one is much better than those 2 and easily their best record since Jane Doe... which is almost impossible to top. there are also "guest appearances" on this one which Converge has never really done before. Effigy features most of Cave In, and Steve Von Till from Neurosis does vocals on Cruel Bloom. There are a few others as well.

I'm not going to post a link because it will just get taken down anyway. if you can't find it email me and i will send it to you.
