somebody suggested that i check this out and i'm very happy i did. listen if you like hot water music/the draft. definitely one of the best records i've heard this year.

I hadn't even heard of this band until a couple weeks ago and I saw that the lp was for sale through magic bullet so i figured i'd give it a shot and man is it awesome. members used to be in there were wires, who i dug... and doomriders, who i didn't... but this sounds nothing like those bands and is actually light years better. i'm not even sure how to properly describe it so just listen to it.

Kurt Ballou / Magic Bullet did an incredible job with this as well.

holy hell this is good. it's their seventh album and i like pretty much everything they've done save for a few songs on You Fail Me and No Heroes but this one is much better than those 2 and easily their best record since Jane Doe... which is almost impossible to top. there are also "guest appearances" on this one which Converge has never really done before. Effigy features most of Cave In, and Steve Von Till from Neurosis does vocals on Cruel Bloom. There are a few others as well.

This is their new album that's coming out via The Mylene Sheath at the end of October. I can't really offer a good description of this band without comparing them to The Cure/Joy Division and that's not entirely accurate so here is some info about them:

While Junius' sound is sometimes tough to categorize, they have cited such artists as Bedhead (Junius singer/guitarist Joseph E. Martinez's uncle Trini was their drummer), Philip Glass, Hum, and M83 among a long list of inspirations. The band has been electrifying rapt audiences with their spellbinding walls of reverb-drenched guitars, haunting vocals and self-made lights since 2004.

Preparation for the long-awaited album began in 2006, with month-long writing/recording sessions in such unconventional locales as a bank vault in California, a warehouse in Texas, a farmhouse in Vermont, and a shack in the swamps of Louisiana. The result is a full-fledged concept album, inspired by the life and theories of controversial scholar Immanuel Velikovsky.

From birth to death, The Martyrdom of A Catastrophist chronicles a man whose progressive theories on ancient history and the cosmos were widely challenged by mainstream academia during his lifetime. The album's ten songs are both cinematic and accessible, building to crescendos which echo some of Post Rock's most epic moments, but with vocals, hooks, and lyrics creating focus throughout. Actual quotes from Velikovsky's interviews and lectures are interspersed between songs, providing a sense of narrative to the proceedings.

I grabbed this last night and have only had the chance to listen to it once but so far I'm really into it. Check it out, and if you dig it shoot me an email and I will send you their self titled release from 2007 which is an amazing record as well.

God Is Good

When I snatched this up last week I had no idea what to think after the first listen. The first song was awesome but the remaining three were... weird? Maybe it was the flute solo, or the heavy middle eastern sound that this record carries but I was definitely caught off guard. But with each listen I began to like it more and more and at this point I can't stop listening to it.

This album is definitely worth checking out and one I will surely buy once it's released. Give it a listen.

didn't even know this was coming out until a few days ago. so far i love it.

Caspian - Tertia (The Mylene Sheath - 2009)

2nd full length from these guys and it is a masterpiece. They've implemented some vocals, strings, pianos and electronics and it really adds a lot to it.

You can download the entire album for free at gimmesound.com. Smaller labels like The Mylene Sheath and Magic Bullet started using this site to let people download new releases for free. The best part is the artists still get paid for each download by the ad revenue generated from the site. Pretty good idea and hopefully more labels catch on to it.

Check this album out if you're into that whole instrumental post-rock thing.

Volume 1 was/is awesome but that was 10 years ago. I haven't listened to anything else this band recorded and I'm not sure what to expect from this... but I liked the song I heard.

I can't listen to it now because the crack the skye 2xlp showed up today and it sounds ridiculous.
