Shrinebuilder last night...

So awesome. The show was in a room that's about 1/3 the size of the church at club sonar in baltimore. Good tunes from every band and a decent crowd except for the cocksucker standing near me up front that ended up getting punched in the glasses.

Earthride came on first and after their set I immediately wanted to go buy a harley and pound booze. The lead singer was like a B movie version of Phil Anselmo who raised his drink as an invitation to pound... and then went right for the sippy straw. Awesome dude. I've never seen them before but would go out of my way to see them again anytime they come around.

I have been listening to US Christmas' Eat The Low Dogs for a while but never had the chance to see them until last night. The live version of this band sounds much different than the recorded version and each has it's good and bad. The vocals don't transfer over that well but the songs sound a lot heavier. I'm happy I get another chance to see them on thursday with Baroness at the church.

Shrinebuilder was amazing. I mean, with these four dudes together on a stage it would be hard to go wrong but they exceeded any ridiculous expectations I had going in. They somehow made these songs sound even better than they do on the record, which is easily one of the best of the year. The heavy parts were heavier, the groove parts could have gone on forever, the vocals were spot on, and dale's drumming is, well... ridiculous. Getting home at 4am sucks but it was worth it to see these dudes rock out.

You can check out Shrinebuilder in NYC at Le Poisson Rogue on Sunday night with Rwake and Liturgy or in Austin, TX on Monday. Hopefully more dates are announced. And hopefully those dates are for a Shrinebuilder, Om, Neurosis, Melvins tour.
